Novelties

There are various main elements of novelty in this project. The first is the treatment of the FOWT as one single dynamic system, taking into account simultaneously aerodynamic/aeroelastic, structural and hydrodynamics aspects, possibly by considering reduced order models (still comprehensive and not based on sub-structure separation) requested to lessen the computational difficulties. The second one is the full, deep and tailored investigation of the nonlinear phenomena, to be highlighted also for their possible exploitation. According to the composite modelling, these investigations will involve a coordinated development of theoretical/numerical and experimental approaches. This latter is also an important element of novelty, since available experiments of FOWTs are quite scarce. Finally, on a more practical side, the realization of the “NEPTUNE Italian Design Guidelines (NEPTUNE-IDG)” for FOWTs in the Mediterranean Sea is certainly another element of novelty.
